Last Night Shift (For Now)0

Just some updates on the latest happenings before I go back to Day shift..

My boyfriend and I went to the mall today and just went for a stroll, some videoke and dinner together. We were supposed to watch a movie but there’s no nice movie to watch this lately.. He also accompanied me to buy something at the department store, before finally heading to the place where I work. Before we went to the mall, we bought our my aunt a box of doughnuts, to her delight.

What else..? Oh, today’s my night last shift (for two months atleast). I’ll be able to get my regular hours of sleep back. I can finally go to the mall and other places during my off-shift. The downside? Well, more "stress" at work, I think.. ;) I hope I’ll get past those..

Good thing I’ll be filing for a vacation leave one of these coming days, so I could join my family when they go to Baguio, yehey! :) I just can’t wait..

Sister visits from Baguio (third time)0

Hmn.. it seems my sister Jezzy has been going home every month.. This time, she saved her one-way bus fare by hitch-hiking, hehe. To whom? My godmother (my mom’s bestfriend), who happens to be in baguio at that time. Lucky girl.. She got home Friday night.

In her stay, we were able to attend anticipated mass last Saturday, went to the mall and watched TV together. But as usual, she forgot (or deliberately?) to bring home "pasalubong" for us. Grr..

She went back to baguio Sunday night. She got 100 pesos from me as part of her bus fare (and some she got from my mom and other relatives, I think). She’ll be back home next month after their Final exams and for the Semestral break. Hope by that time she has something with her.. :p

Windstruck0

The movie that some say is the "prelude" to "My Sassy Girl".. which is also now one of my favorites..

Windstruck

The Plot: Bad tempered police officer Kyung Jin (Jun Ji Hyeon) has zero tolerance for crime. When she spots a guy running down the street holding a purse and an old lady giving chase, Kyung Jin runs him down and beats the living tar out of him. The culprit claims that he is innocent; that his name is Myung Woo (Chang Hyuk) and a high school art teacher, and that he was simply chasing down the real culprit who stole the old lady’s purse.
A few days later, Myung Woo returns to the police station to do his "community service" by riding with a police officer to observe local law enforcement. Much to his surprise, he is paired with "Dirty Harriet" for the ride. As if pairing up with the rather ballsy Kyung Jin wasn’t bad enough, Myung Woo is pulled along when she spots a large drug deal going down, with all the thugs carrying submachine guns and all she had was a six-shooter! But as they say. . . opposites attract!

Wstruck_1 Movie Reviews: On the surface, this movie is another boring romance story where girl meets guy, they fall in love and their relationship meets with a tragic fate. But delve deeper… and it is different…

The opening scene of a beautiful girl (Ji-Hyun) leaping to her death is enough to capture your attention, followed by ?Oh heck! It’s a sad show because of the guy’s voice over which sounds sad!? Then you get thrown into the cop-chasing scene, which is so funny. In short, this movie has you glued to your seat because of the roller?coaster ride of emotions right from the beginning.

The characters are interesting too. No one is who he or she seems in this movie… Kyungjin portrays herself as a feisty, kick-ass cop, but that isn?t the real her. She is behaving like her twin sister and fulfilling her dream of being a cop. Myungwoo, who is a soft-hearted guy, goes ?crazy? when a gangster hits Kyungjin and is willing to assist her when she?s chasing after criminals. The real killer of Myungwoo keeps mum and tries to kill the ultimate baddie himself. The characters get complex, which is what happens in real life (where nothing is straightforward and in black or white), which makes them all the more real.

WindkrBits and pieces of the movie seem to string together and make this a memorable movie. The scriptwriter?s choice in explaining Kyungjin?s past makes me understand why she chooses to jump. Using the wind to explain Myungwoo?s presence makes this movie all the more poignant. Who doesn?t associate a certain smell or music in some time of your life with a certain event? Using the wind is so poignant and painful because one always feels the wind constantly. Knowing that Myungwoo is always at her side but that he is not touchable must be sheer hell for Kyungjin. Then there is the scene where Kyungjin goes after the ultimate baddie… you hear her past conversations with Myungwoo playing in the background as she chases after the baddie. There is a certain flow to the movie that keeps you informed of what is going to happen next but still manages to surprise when it actually happens. For instance, the scenes where the paper airplane that appears at the start of their relationship and follows right to the end of the movie, and when Myungwoo tells Kyunjin that she will meet someone else with his soul, are very nicely done.

People have been referring to this as a sequel to The Sassy Girl. Aside from the similar characteristics of the lead actress’ roles and the same leading actress, I do not think that this could be a sequel. I think this is much better than My Sassy Girl; there is more development in Windstruck. Perhaps it is more of a complete version of My Sassy Girl? Or maybe a pre-sequel? The other criticism is the many endings in the film. Well, if Kyungjin had died or not met another guy, I would have been disappointed.

Comments: If you loved "My Sassy Girl", you’ll also definitely love this film! Since both films have the sam director, expect the magic formula that we saw in "My Sassy Girl" also being used here.

I strongly suggest to watch "My Sassy Girl" first before this one.. trust me.. (wink, wink) :D

This film is worth your time, I promise.. and it will give you the creeps! Hehe..

Hold You Down0

I should have posted this one some time ago but I sometimes forget. Anyways, here it is! You can also watch its music video by viewing my profile! Hehe.. ;)

Hold You Down
Jennifer Lopez feat. Fat Joe

[Verse 1]

For such a long time now
From back then

Straight from the hood

I wasn’t anything
It was you who had me holdin’ on
No matter what was goin’ on
So no whatever ya need I got you

[Fat Joe:]
Reminiscing that 6 train from way back
Now its sky blue phantoms and stretch may backs
Sweepin’ them floors in them Bronx apartments
Mira esta que on that red carpet
With Pun died you was the first to call me
I never told you but you was there for me
Whatever you need, I’ll be there for you
Crack - I got ya back for real (True story)

[Bridge]

[Jennifer:]
Now my loyalty, will always be
With you, if you just promise me
That you’ll stay real just like you are
‘Cause baby you don’t have to change (no)

[Chorus]

[Jennifer:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
Boy, I’m gon’ hold you down

You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation

[Verse 2]

[Fat Joe:]
2005 Rakim and Jody Watley
Why’d she paint such a picture so perfect
Quite possibly
The real expression from BX
To South Beach
I’ma always hold you down, girl
You can count on me

[Jennifer:]
So remember this whenever I call
We go back too far
We’ve been through it all
Even though we haven’t spoke
In so long
Ain’t nothing has changed
Not a damn thing, baby

[Bridge]

[Jennifer:]
Now my loyalty, will always be
With you, if you just promise me
That you’ll stay real just like you are
‘Cause baby you don’t have to change because

[Chorus]

[Jennifer:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
Boy, I’m gon’ hold you down

[Fat Joe:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
Girl, I’m gon’ hold you down

[Verse 3]

[Fat Joe:]
Like green, it’s the autumns
Things will stay
This industry, yeah, I fought
Made me this way
Get between me and J.Lo
I simply stay
You better off sweepin’ leaves
On a windy day (no)

[Jennifer:]
So I don’t care about the situation
I’ma ride for you if there’s a complication
Every time you had my back and all
When we were young
Now you Joe, we crackin’ off

[Bridge]

[Jennifer:]
Now my loyalty, will always be
With you, if you just promise me
That you’ll stay real just like you are
‘Cause baby you don’t have to change because

[Chorus]

[Jennifer:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
Boy, I’m gon’ hold you down

[Fat Joe:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
Girl, I’m gon’ hold you down

[Jennifer and Fat Joe:]
You don’t know how much you mean to me
Whenever you down
You know that you can lean on me
No matter the situation
I’m gon’ hold you down

UP Places 2nd in Nestle Non-Stop Cheerdance Competition0

Another upset this year when UP bags again the second place for the 2005 Nestle Non-Stop Cheerdance Competition, held at the Araneta Coliseum..

UST again won the first place by merely .22 points. Yup.. UST’s score was 90.98 while UP scored 90.76. FEU placed third again, by the way. And the standings for the top three were the same as last year..

UP’s performance was okay, and very unique as expected. Though I think it still lacks something.. The only "edge" (I think) that UST has over UP Pep Squad is their execution. Very synchronized. And their Nestle Non-Stop cheering part is the best among all the schools, so I think that made them won.

Too bad I was not able to watch live. I saw on TV that the venue was really jam-packed.. I miss cheering that "Unibersidad ng Pilipinas" cheer (with all the gestures, hehe).

Congrats to UP Pep Squad! You’re still the champion for us! We’ll surely beat them all next year! :)

My Sassy Girl0

The film that made everyone fell in love with it the first time they saw it, is now coming to Philippine cinemas through a "Tagalized" version of the film..

My_sassy_girlThe Plot: Kyun-woo (Cha Tae-hyun) is a down-to-earth, charming young student. He’s been looking for the right girl for awhile - so much that his aunt has tried to lure him into blind dates a few times. Enter "The Girl," (Jeon Ji-hyun) a nuclear mix of creepiness, good looks and unusual manners. Kyun-woo saves her from certain death when she risks falling on the subway tracks. She repays him calling him "honey," and puking her guts out on a poor man’s wig. This is how their relationship begins, which will involve many more methods of psychological - and physical - torture for Kyun-woo to sustain. It turns out The Girl is not your average student: she hates melodrama and TV tearjerkers, would rather wear sneakers than high heels and has a penchant for punching you in the face for no apparent reason. Kyun-woo will bear all her weird charms, and suffer the consequences of such an unusual relationship. He’ll also find out there’s something more hidden beneath her menacing surface.

YupkigirlMovie Reviews: If there is one really good reason to watch "My Sassy Girl", it would have to be Jun Ji-hyun’s turn as the film’s unnamed heroine. From her unforgettable first appearance as a wasted commuter, to her rambunctious bullying of Kyun-woo, to the heartbreak she wears on her sleeve, Jun displays an unparalleled level of enthusiasm and dramatic range in portraying a young woman whose domineering exterior is but a smokescreen for her own vulnerability– it is almost difficult to believe that this same actress who played the quiet and introspective Kim Eun-ju in "Il Mare". As her opposite, the likable Cha Tae-hyun is the perfect comic foil/underdog for Jun’s bundle of untamed energy, and his ‘constipated’ facial expression, when faced with one of her ‘outbursts’, is priceless.

Like the best Korean films, "My Sassy Girl" is a genre-bending exercise that throws in elements of the teen comedy, the traditional melodramatic romance, and even some genre parody and blends them into a unique cinematic experience that defies categorization. The film’s original Korean title, Yeopgi, which means ‘novelty-seeking’, is in reference to the youth craze that was started by Kim Ho-sik’s original Internet postings about his eccentric girlfriend. Though the English title for this film doesn’t mean quite the same thing, it certainly does tell you what to expect.

Comments: This is the film to watch out for! I recommend everyone to watch this and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it.. ;) I’m not sure though about the "Tagalized" version, but the English subtitled one is very entertaining enough.

It took me quite a long time before I finally get to watch this film. Good thing I have a copy in the office, hehe.. But it’s all worth it!

Some facts: This film has been around since 2001. It is also known as "Yupki Girl". :)

Great Pieces of Advice0

Here’s something to ponder on.. Reminds me of some quotes on "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren..

Don’t date because you are desperate.
Don’t marry because you are miserable.
Don’t have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don’t philander because you think you are irresistible.

Don’t associate with people you can’t trust.
Don’t cheat. Don’t lie. Dont pretend.
Don’t dictate because you are smarter.
Don’t demand because you are stronger.

Don’t sleep around because you think you are old enough and know better.

Don’t hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don’t sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don’t stagnate.
Don’t regress.

Don’t live in the past. Time can’t bring anything or anyone back.
Don’t put your life on hold for possibly Mr/Mrs Right.
Don’t throw your life away on absolutely Mr Wrong because your biological clock is ticking.

Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career.
Sometimes, there is no race to be won. Only a price to be paid for some of life’s more hasty decisions.

To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy.
To fulfill your parenting fantasies, get a puppy (or a cat)
Don’t bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.

To make yourself happy, pursue your passions and be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life. Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habits, and dangerous liaisons.

Don’t abandon your responsibilities but don’t overdose on duty.
Don’t live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself.
Don’t commit when you are not ready.
Don’t keep others waiting needlessly.

Go on that trip. Don’t postpone it.
Say those words. Don’t let the moment pass.
Do what you have to, even at society’s scorn.

Write poetry.
Love Deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.

Take care of yourself.
Don’t wait for someone to take care of you.
You light up your life.
You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except YOU.

It is true that life does not get easier with age.
It only gets more challenging.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t lose your capacity to love.
Pursue your passions.

Live your dreams.
Don’t lose faith in your God.
Don’t grow old. Just grow YOU!

Let Me Go0

I like this song already but found more meaning to it after it was played on the background during one of Smallville’s episodes.. :)

Let Me Go
Three Doors Down

One more kiss could be the best thing
But one more lie could be the worst
And all these thoughts are never resting
And you’re not something I deserve

In my head there’s only you now
This world falls on me
In this world there’s real and make believe
And this seems real to me

[CHORUS:]
You love me but you don’t know who I am
I’m torn between this life I lead and where I stand
And you love me but you don’t know who I am
So let me go
Let me go

I dream ahead to what I hope for
And I turn my back on loving you
How can this love be a good thing
When I know what I’m goin’ through

In my head there’s only you now
This world falls on me
In this world there’s real and make believe
And this seems real to me

[CHORUS:]
You love me but you don’t know who I am
I’m torn between this life I lead and where I stand
You love me but you don’t know who I am
So let me go
Just let me go
Let me go

And no matter how hard I try
I can’t escape these things inside I know
I know
When all the pieces fall apart
You will be the only one who knows
Who knows

[CHORUS:]
You love me but you don’t know who I am
I’m torn between this life I lead and where I stand
And you love me but you don’t know who I am
So let me go
Just let me go

And you love me but you don’t
You love me but you don’t
You love me but you don’t know who I am
And you love me but you don’t
You love me but you don’t
You love me but you don’t know me
